What is rejuvenation in Ayurveda?
Rejuvenation in Ayurveda is the transformation of organ systems and the balancing of body energies. This includes balancing of the physical body, mind and emotions. In order to have a healthy body the physical, mental and emotional aspects must be in balance.
What happens to our bodies as we age?
As we become older, our body’s ability to function optimally deteriorates. The function of all of our organs progressively declines. This means that the older we become, the more health problems we accumulate. Therefore, poor health is usually related to older age.
As we age, our Dosha can become imbalanced. Kapha Dosha and Vata Dosha can become aggravated. This leads to clogging and cellular damage.
A balance of energy is required for the maintenance of good cellular function. When there is a balance of energy, fluids and nutrients can easily move into cells to support their function. Waste products and toxins can easily flow out of cells. Balanced energy also means that there is optimal cell lubrication and a normal cell structure. The final result is a healthy cell.
Kapha Dosha is the energy responsible for cellular lubrication and structure. It is the water energy.
Vata Dosha is the energy responsible for movement. It ensures that appropriate nutrients are delivered to our cells as soon as the cell needs them. It also ensures that toxins and waste products can easily exit our cells. Vata Dosha is the wind energy.
Therefore, the end results of Dosha imbalance is a poor ageing process and reduced organ function. Some examples of problems we may encounter as we age:
- Health issues may develop.
- The entire body system may become more acidic than normal.
- Our joints and skin lose their elasticity. They become loose and lose their youthful luster.
